Dejv Mutnjakovic is a Canadian illustrator, writer, and educator whose work explores themes of healing, trauma, environmental consciousness, and spiritual transformation. Born on the border between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, he is the son of a refugee from Eastern Europe and an Irish poet. This origin shaped his deeply imaginative and cross-cultural vision.
At age 13, Dejv survived a life-altering chronic illness that reshaped his sense of purpose and sent him on a global journey of self-discovery. From Europe to Tasmania and eventually back to Montreal, he began creating a vast body of work including more than 3,000 drawings, stories, and visual experiments that document a personal and mystical process of recovery and expression.
Dejv’s illustrations are rooted in empathy, storytelling, and wonder. In schools, he uses art and narrative to help students unpack contemporary issues such as mental health, identity, and environmental justice. He focuses particularly on empowering neurodivergent learners and children overcoming medical challenges. His exhibitions across Canada and Europe address subjects often left in the shadows, including social isolation, trauma, and emotional survival, offering both tenderness and clarity.
With a BFA in Community Art Education and Film Animation from Concordia University, Dejv brings a unique blend of curriculum development and visual storytelling. His artistic process begins in what he calls "the sacred space of emptiness," where trauma and love meet, and where the act of creation becomes a pathway to healing.
He is currently living and creating in Port Moody, British Columbia.
